CB Benway, CRNP, APRN, Owner

CB Benway is a dual certified Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psychiatry who graduated from Yale University Graduate School of Nursing in 2002. She is passionate about what she does and has involved her children in her career so as to give them some insight into what keeps her away from home at night. She specializes in children and adolescents with autism and shares her extensive knowledge with students from all over. CB loves working with parents to assist with parenting solutions, crisis intervention, improving conditions in schools both for individual children and children as a whole.

 
 
 
 

Jessica Henderson, CRNP, PMHNP-BC

Jessica is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.  Jessica graduated with her Masters in Nursing from Walden University in 2020.  Jessica is also a nursing graduate of University of Phoenix in 2012 and Hagerstown Community College in 2010. Before becoming a PMHNP, Jessica worked with the Veteran population for 10 years at a VAMC as a RN. Jessica is also a Veteran. She served in the United States Marine Corps for four years in the
aviation field.

Jessica has experience in diagnosing and treating patients with complex and dual psychiatric diagnoses to include Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorders,
Bipolar and Related Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders, and Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorders.

In her spare time, Jessica enjoys spending time with her family and her dogs.

 
 
 

Katie Koons, CRNP, PMHNP-BC

Katie Koons is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with sixteen years of experience as a nurse practitioner and twenty years working in mental health. She graduated from Belmont University with a BSN in 2004, and worked as a nurse for a few years before graduating from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing with a MSN in 2008.

ShBe specializes in treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, PTSD, ADHD, and Binge Eating Disorder. Katie strives to provide compassionate and evidence-based care for adults and teens.

Katie believes in a holistic approach to mental health, integrating medication management with psychotherapy and lifestyle interventions to support long-term health and wellness.

Before joining Advanced Practice Psychiatric Solutions, Katie worked at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center outpatient psychiatry program for six years. During that time, she received specialty training in eating disorders and worked on the eating disorders treatment team. She has presented twice at the VAMC Mental Health Summit on the topics of “Approaching Veterans about Obesity” (2023), and “Identifying Substance Use Disorders and Referring to Medication Assisted Therapy Treatment” (2019). She also presented at VA Hospital Wide Grand Rounds in 2023 on the topic of Psychopharmacological Management of Eating Disorders. Before working at the VAMC Katie worked in predominantly outpatient roles at private hospital based clinics including Brook Lane in Hagerstown, and Carle Clinic in Champaign, IL.

Outside of work Katie enjoys spending time with family and friends.

 


Jennifer Hunter,

Billing Manager,

Patient Accounts Coordinator

Jennifer has been with APPS since its beginnings in 2018. You may not see Jennifer in the office often, but she works behind the scenes coding, posting payments, and managing reimbursement. She ensures all current regulations are implemented, and communicates with insurance companies to advocate for our clients and obtain authorizations for services. Jennifer also enjoys working one on one with our clients to help interpret their specific plans, handle monthly statements, and create payment plans when needed. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her 4-year-old daughter and 20-month-old son, cooking, and painting. Fun Fact: Jennifer is the artist who painted the murals in the office!

 
 

Diane Austin,
Certified Medical Assistant, AAMA,CNA

Diane graduated from Miller-Motte College in Virginia. She has been in the behavioral health field for fifteen plus years. Here at APPS she assists the clinicians with a variety of duties from prior authorizations, and triage, to vitals signs and appointments. She also has extensive experience in assisting with mental health crisis and triage. Her core belief is treating each patient with respect and dignity.

 
 

Jaime Benway, Administrative Assistant

Jaime has worked with APPS since October 2020. You can usually find her with Jenny in billing, processing patient copays and deductible payments, and fielding medication refill requests. She is a certified cosmetologist, and enjoys makeup artistry and photography.

 
 
 

Marja Forrest, Senior Administrative Assistant

You will see Marja in a variety of areas in the office, as she is our multitasking “ senior administrative floater”, who jumps in to help with many of the office tasks ! Marja graduated from FCC in 1998 with her certificate in Medical Office Technology. She worked for 12 years for United Health Care, processing psych claims. On her off days you will find her at the football or softball field watching her kids play.

 
 

Atia Austin, CNA

Atia joined APPS in November 2023, bringing her extensive background and expertise to the team. With job training as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and personal care aide, as well as pharmacy technician training, Atia boasts 13 years of experience in the CNA field. In her role as an administrative assistant at APPS, she plays a crucial part in ensuring the front office runs efficiently. Her duties include checking in patients, answering phones, taking vital signs, and interacting with patients in a respectful and caring manner. Outside of work, Atia actively enjoys shopping, dining, and spending quality time with her family.
